Meet Somes

Hi, I'm Somes Huwiler, an outdoor and wildlife filmmaker based in Jackson, Wyoming. As a passionate conservationist, skier, climber, and outdoor enthusiast, my life is deeply connected to the wild places and creatures that make our planet so extraordinary.

I’m driven by the belief that storytelling has the power to inspire change. Through my work, I aim to create compelling, impact-driven content that not only showcases the beauty of nature but also highlights the vital efforts to protect it. Whether capturing grizzly bears in Alaska or skiing the rugged terrain of Jackson, my mission is to share the awe-inspiring stories of our natural world and those dedicated to preserving its biodiversity.

I’m currently pursuing a Masters in Wildlife Filmmaking at the University of West England in collaboration with the BBC Natural History Unit.

Growing up in the Adirondack Park, the mountains have always felt like home to me. From tracing animal tracks in the snow to carving turns on my local slopes, the outdoors has been my constant companion and source of inspiration.

After earning a degree in Global Studies and Sustainability from the University of Virginia, I made my way to Jackson, Wyoming—a place with unparalleled access to the Grand Teton National Park, surrounding National Forests, and an incredible variety of wildlife.

Living in Wyoming has taught me the art of embracing discomfort. Whether navigating wind-loaded avalanche zones, working in bear country in Alaska, or exploring the new cities, I’ve learned to adapt to—and thrive in—the most challenging environments. This adaptability has become a cornerstone of my work as a filmmaker, allowing me to capture the raw beauty of nature in all its forms.
